Lesson 05 / 12 · Combined failures

Add a failed generator

What changes if the generator cannot start?

Run this browser lesson →

Predict before you run

Write down your prediction, then change only the input below. In the interactive lesson, compare the starting case with the challenge and export a worksheet to retain your reasoning.

The two lesson configurations
InputStarting valueChallenge value
Generator available (0 = failed, 1 = available)0 1

Reported quantity: s unserved. The live control accepts 0–1.

Worked answer

With the generator failed, the battery empties at 607.8 s and service is lost for 292.2 s. An available generator starts after 30 s and avoids that gap.

Reproduce the configuration

Starting case assumptions
IT demand / simulated duration1000 kW / 1800 s
Opening battery / energy capacity100 kWh / 100 kWh
Charging power limit100 kW
Charge / discharge efficiency0.95 / 0.9
Distribution efficiency0.95
Generator start delay30 s

Scheduled events

The browser lesson applies its configuration to the generator_failure preset. Open it above, run the starting case, switch to the challenge, and use “Verify against Python” to compare complete results. Use the worksheet export to keep the prediction, completed inputs and answer together.
